Stay Safe On Your Road Trip
Heading on a road trip this summer? Proper preparation is key for a smooth, problem-free ride and fun for everyone.
Is Your Car Road Worthy?
As obvious as it sounds, you want to make sure that you're vehicle will be able to make it to your destination and back. Check the oil, coolant, wipers, lights, horn, belts, hoses, battery, and tires before take off on your journey. For information on how to prepare your vehicle for a road trip, check out RTM's article Vacation Car Care Tips.
Know Where You're Going
Nothing can ruin a good time like getting lost, so make sure that you have general knowledge of where you are going prior to the trip. Always a have a map or GPS on hand, and don't deviate from the route you have planned out. If the situation requires you leaving the route you had planned, always keep workable alternate routes in mind. Keep the Kids Busy
Screaming children can be a big distraction while driving. A busy kid is a happy kid on the road, so make sure your child has something to focus on. Soft small toys, crayons, or playing cards all work well. Old standby car games (such as counting license plates) and songs are a surefire way to keep your child happy.
